Nybo joins in unveiling Mariano’s new Lombard location
In the spirit of strengthening and reviving Illinois’ business climate, State Senator Chris Nybo (R-Elmhurst) was pleased to formally welcome Mariano’s grocery store to the Lombard community at its official opening on August 21. He joined Lombard Village President Keith Giagnorio and Mariano’s management team to unveil the new location at the southeast corner of Roosevelt and Finley Road.
“The completion of Mariano’s was definitely worth the wait; I know it’s going to breathe new life into Lombard’s business community and our neighborhoods,” said Nybo. “The lot has been vacant for over a year, and I am thrilled to see an honest, responsible, and quality business move in and choose our area as their new home.”
The estimated $25.5 million project started in the fall of 2016 with the demolition of an old Kmart store, and the construction of the roughly 74,000-square-foot store took approximately one year to complete.
Not only does the project fill Lombard’s void for a grocer in the community—serving a new market niche—but its development earned support from the Village of Lombard, public officials and taxpayers for its wide range of benefits. The project successfully created both construction and permanent job opportunities within the Village and is expected to fuel the local economy with its projected $37.5 million in retail sales in the first year.
Nybo offered his assistance in the planning phase by facilitating negotiations for critical road improvements that were needed to buy and redevelop the site that previously contained Kmart. Proposed changes to state roads, like Route 38/Roosevelt Road, required discussion to receive the necessary authorization from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
“I was happy to be able to help this project reach fruition,” said Nybo. “Supporting local business growth and job creation is a huge priority for me, and we should be doing everything possible to keep up that momentum and encourage new businesses to set up shop here.”
Mariano’s Fresh Market opens for business on August 21 at 345 West Roosevelt Road in Lombard, and Nybo encourages everyone in the area to stop by and see the product of the Village’s hard work.
